In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.

 Mission Statement:

SLO Hiking Moms seeks to provide support and companionship among like-minded mothers, encourage outdoor physical activity in our children and keep our members physically fit.

A Little Bit About Us...

SLO Hiking Moms was started in 2005 by Jennifer Melton as a way to explore local hiking trails with a group of like-minded mothers.  It seemed like the perfect way to stay in shape with a newborn daughter.  It was not long before a group of friends was established and today moms of all abilities and ages join together for our semi-weekly hikes throughout San Luis Obispo County.

Unlike other social groups that get together without the children, we encourage children to be involved with SLO Hiking Moms. Some of the best exercise you will ever get is hiking a steep slope with a baby on your back! A quality backpack and sturdy shoes are all that is needed; no babysitter or childcare. The hikes we schedule are on well-established trails and of various levels of difficulty.  We are a non-competitive group of moms who love to share in the successes of fellow hikers.  It is always fun to watch a mom that struggled on her first outing to lead the pack later on.  If your children are school aged you are welcome to come alone; this is a great opportunity to share your wisdom with newer moms.

As our group’s infants have grown into ambitious toddlers, we have added Toddler hikes as well.  This group, started and led by Tifnie LaCabe, is a great way to allow little ones to explore nature on their own time and also get some needed exercise.  While the toddlers keep busy walking and exploring, the mothers have an opportunity to communicate and share parenting ideas.

There is no fee or membership to join SLO Hiking Moms.  Just give us a call or drop an e-mail providing your name, e-mail address, and your child(ren)’s age and we will forward you a temporary user name and password so that you may access the web site and view our schedule.  In addition to hiking, we also have monthly Mom’s Night Out.  We hope to meet you soon!
